The Norwegian Market Has Fixed the iPhone Air Pricing

iPhone prices on Apple.no (including 25% VAT, rounded up), that are not “fixed” are as follows:

This is what Apple has intended.
17 Pro: 16,000 NOK (€1,430)
Air: 15,000 NOK (€1,340)
17: 12,000 NOK (€1,072)

But prices from the “premium partner” (that runs physical “Apple stores” in Norway) has a different tiering:

17 Pro: 16,000 NOK (€1,430)
17: 12,000 NOK (€1,072)
Air: 10,500 NOK (€938)

Now the comparison between the excellent 171 and the Air is something like this:

  • 17 has better battery (30 hours vs 27 hours — but the Pro has 37 hours)
  • 17 has an extra camera
  • 17 has better speakers
  • Air has a larger screen (both good and bad, IMO)
  • Air is obviously thinner and lighter — and probably more durable and premium feeling
  • Air has a better processor and more memory (can run better local models on iOS 27)
  • Air is slightly cheaper(!)

IMO, the Air looked especially bad because the natural comparison (due to pricing) was the Pro models. However, things look better compared to the 17 — especially when it’s cheaper.

But anyway, I just bought a used iPhone Air to replace my ageing 13 Mini!2 It has 100% battery health, and was bought new in February.3 And here in Norway, we have this excellent law that mandates 5-year warranties on stuff like phones — so that gives me more than 4.5 years of it on this phone. And as I bought it for €688 I think I got a decent deal! Even though I usually recommend waiting for updates before buying (even used). However, with current component pricing, things are difficult to predict…

I think the compromises with the Air fit me well, as I don’t mind the cons as much and care about the pros. But we’ll see when it gets here! Luckily for me, most people don’t want the Air — so the price had to be lowered for the stores to move the units.

  1. It’s clear that it was so good because the plan was for it to last for 1.5 years instead of the regular 1. ↩︎

  2. Even the mid battery life on the Air is probably an upgrade for me — and the same with the camera. (I don’t use the wide a lot.) And I like to hold the Air, which I often do while using my phone! The Pro was never an option for me, really — mostly due to price. But I also don’t like the bulk, and my wife has a Pro (so a better camera). ↩︎

  3. At that time, the guy who bought it paid €1,072. ↩︎
